It depends on the quality of your caravan awning vinyl and how you store your van. The first place on your awning that will usually delaminate is the top of the vinyl which runs along your van, this is the part of your vinyl that is exposed to the UV rays of the sun. We recommend storing your van under cover not only for your awning but the plastics of your air conditioner and fridge vent, if this is not an option than we offer a cover strip that can be installed to protect your awning while rolled up.
Our caravan replacement vinyls expected life if not stored under cover:
Caravan Awning replacement Vinyl Standard (3 years UV warranty) - Last between 5 to 7 years without the pattern fading.
Caravan Awning replacement Vinyl Premium (5 years UV warranty) - Last between 8 to 10 years without pattern fading.
Caravan Awning replacement Vinyl Platinum (10 years UV warranty) - Last up to 15 years.
Sadly caravan awning vinyls/skins/canvas are a disposable goods that delaminate with exposure to the sun, this delamination makes the vinyl crack so you can't put them through a sewing machine without the risk of the machine tearing it up. To get you by while on the road we recommend hand sewing the stitching that has come loose. When it comes to holes in your vinyl Gorilla tape is great for patching the holes, but we do recommend eventually replacing your awning vinyl.
A caravan awning's hardware is made to last but the vinyl material on the other hand can only last so long. This is where we come in, we provide quality caravan awning replacement vinyls at an affordable price that doesn't compromise on quality. Our awning skins are sewn in Gore Tenara thread which has a 15-year life and a quality vinyl imported from Ricky Richards, we believe our caravan awning replacement vinyls are the best on the Australian market and provide a warranty to fit that claim.
We supply an easy fitting guide with your order. Thousands of our customers have DIY fitted their new vinyl. We eliminate the unwinding of the spring tension with our own guide written by our founders Mick and Mel!
We use the MAGIC ERASER type foam...... it gets off dust and grime easily with the use of WATER only! Most commercial cleaners have bleach/chlorine in.... which is detrimental to Pvc vinyls. Mild soap and water are best to use.
We sell a 250mm x 110mm magic eraser that has a velcro compatible top face for attaching to a mop head.
Our vinyl is supplied by a Sydney company been around for 40 yrs.....They have supplied this vinyl for the last 15 yrs. They test the vinyls they supply. This particular vinyl has had NO evidence of delaminating after their own ongoing, extensive testing to International standards. The vinyl is produced in South Korea.
There is one mill in NSW that manufacture vinyls. Unfortunately they can only make up to 2m wide vinyls. We need Also the chemicals needed to treat the vinyls against Uv degradation are banned in most western countries.
YES , we make each vinyl as you order it, so we will make it to fit the measurements you provide. Use our measuring guide to know where to measure from and we need to know brand, if its a carefree Led version or not, as shape varies and spline sizes vary depending on your setup.
We sew all the splines in place for Dometic and Carefree awnings. All 3!
We leave one of the splines unsewn in the Aussie traveller roller to eliminate having to drill out the end cap for fitting. This needs to be pushed in after the awning is fitted and in place.
Our vinyl is a quality vinyl custom sewn to your measurements , in the best thread available!
If you measure the replacement size needed it will fit your annexe/ anti flap bar setup for your van.
Most of the vinyls on ebay are imported, and ready made in a box with separate splines. There are variable widths across all the brands. These generic sized vinyls will not fit/ suit all applications.
Carefree don't supply new Led carefree vinyl's without the roller. To save a few $$ We can make a replacement quality vinyl with tapered side hems, as original.
You will need to pull the 12v joiner apart, located in the lever end (rear) of the roller. Carefully remove the wire from the hem...dont use a stanley knife. Instead pull the hem stitching apart. There is a cord in the front hem also that needs removing and replacing in the new vinyl also. This evens up the bulk in the hem. Remove and replace the vinyl as per instructions..... Once your vinyl is rolling up square, use one of the old stiff splines to push up from the roller end inside the side hem. there will be a slit in the underside of the hem. Attach the 12v plug to the end of the spline with ducktape and pull down and drag the plug/wire out the roller end . Rejoin plug and feed back into roller. Do the same the other end, leaving the cord inside the hem fully. If your front cord is broken and perished, you can use a similar sized weed trimmer cord.
